Bitcoin Ordinals Developer Suggests Changing System of Inscription Numbering
Since the Ordinals protocol started, every non-fungible token (or NFT) that originated with the utilization of Ordinals got an exclusive inscription number.

Casey Rodarmor, the chief coder and the creator of Bitcoin Ordinals, has suggested changing the numbering system of the protocol. The purpose of this development is to simplify the codebase of the project. Since the Ordinals protocol started, every non-fungible token (or NFT) that originated with the utilization of Ordinals got an exclusive inscription number.

They operated just like serial numbers. In addition to this, they have been playing a key role in the digital art that the protocol mints. Nonetheless, Rodarmor is of the view that maintaining the stability of the inscription numbers has some negative consequences. Rodarmor said that it has resulted in a stalled development and ugly code.
I guess the cat is out of the bag! In short, I think that the effort to keep inscription numbers stable hasn't been worth it, and has led to ugly code and stalled development, since new changes need to be extremely and often awkardly careful not to change the numbers of old… https://t.co/SsEqjdtZFB

Due to this, the chief coder of the protocol proposed the permanent instability of the inscription numbers. This means that the numbering system specified for assigning exclusive numbers to inscriptions will witness deprioritization. The respective inscriptions develop in the network of Bitcoin. Rodarmor mentioned that the development will streamline the codebase of the protocol.
The Latest Development Will Offer Ease in the Protocol Changes in the Future
Apart from that, it will provide convenience in the protocol changes in the future. Rodarmor also pointed out that the changing of the inscription numbers does not mean they will become wholly scrapped. The coder brought to the front that the exclusive inscription numbers may differ from the old ones by one percent.

While many spoke in favor of this move, the rest of the consumers recompensed huge amounts to obtain particular numbers. They were of the view that the numbers’ reorganization would influence the particular numbers. Irrespective of this, a community member made a response. The people caring about the inscription numbering can even now arrange the collectibles through their timestamps, the member added.
